They are made by shaving thin curls from the surface of a piece of wood, which remain attached to the wood at the base. This increases the surface area of the wood, making it easier to burn. The Splitter is a safe alternative to using a knife.

The Carving Splitter is a safe, easy, and efficient tool for making highly flammable kindling. Kiehiset are excellent natural fire starters, and by using this product, you can leave the commercial fire starters behind.
It is easy to mount on a wall at your chosen height—whether indoors, in your cottage, sauna, or outside in a woodshed. You only need screws that are suitable for the wall material.
Using the tool is very simple: place a log on the top level and slide the blade down the side of the wood, cutting along its length. The handle is made of comfortable, grippy silicone rubber.
The blade is made of durable steel, which is not only great for making carvings but also handy for making kindling from firewood. The blade only requires occasional sharpening to remain in good working condition.
